Songbird Stitcher - Cross Stitch Design Shop

When Covid-19 hit and the world seemingly shut down, it was time for a side hustle. Thus, Songbird Stitcher was born.

Songbird Stitcher is the combo of a love for graphic design & cross stitching - making modern designs focused on body positivity, personal affirmations, & “therapy thoughts” for a new generation of stitchers. I handle it all - from initial design idea to finished cross stitch pattern and Etsy listing.

To date, patterns have been sold to crafters in 31 states and 8 countries and the Songbird Stitcher Etsy shop has a coveted 5-star reviews.

The process

Every idea is created in Adobe Illustrator. A color scheme is chosen, making sure to choose colors close to one in the DMC Color Floss card - the standard brand in embroidery floss today.

The final desired stitch size is calculated and the design is overlaid on the appropriate stitch-per-inch grid.

Then comes the tedious (and fun!) bit - each individual stitch and color symbol is put in its proper place. This allows for high-level editing and better final "stitchability."

Each design is actually stitched, matted, and photographed for use in listing mockups.

The original pattern is then made into both print and digital patterns that are beautiful and easy-to-read for customers.
